Fish oil

First I have to start with a little physiology lesson as to how we store fat.

I have made this as simple as possible so if there are any scientists or know it alls out there, please don’t correct me :)

When you digest food, your blood sugar will rise accordingly. If the food had a high carb element then your blood sugar will rise more rapidly than if you digested protein. Queue energy going up…..

HOWEVER to combat that rise in blood sugar (which the body does not like), your pancreas will release insulin to bring the sugar levels down. Sometimes the sugar levels will drop below normal, and this will cause people to lose energy, as well as many other negative factors.

This may continue throughout the day giving you bursts of energy followed by slumps. It is the constant release of too much insulin that causes the body to store fat. If this happens too much, apart from storing it can cause DIABETES which isn’t so cool :)

Lesson over and now onto the tip.

Recent studies show that by having 2 teaspoons of lemon juice with a high carb meal may stop the rise of sugar in your blood of up to 30%, therefore blunting the insulin response.

It’s all about controlling blood sugar. Get a side salad and put lemon juice on.

Second tip and a personal favourite of mine is to have a tablespoon of fish oil right after a big carb meal.

This again with stop the rise in blood sugar as the fat from the oil takes far longer to digest. I don’t suggest you take a bottle of fish oil out to the restaurant but how easy is it to have 4 fish oil capsules in your handbag  to take straight after the meal?

Guys, you don’t have to have a handbag to take the fish oil, a man bag will do just fine :)
