Paleo Diet for Fat loss

Hey Guys,

Our Paleolithic ancestors never had access to plentiful carbs yet had no problems kicking arse and taking down dinosaurs…

What he would have eaten would be lots of meat, vegetables, certain fruits, nuts and seeds…and so should you!

The vast majority of us are not designed to process carbohydrates efficiently and store an excess as body fat. A certain individual maybe known as carb tolerant.

If you are asking yourself right now if you are or not, ask yourself this. Can you eat and drink whatever you want, anytime
and never put any weight on?

No…neither can I or nearly 90% of the population.

If any of you guys are looking to burn body fat and I would suggest that most of you are, you need to keep your carb intake low, and the carbs that you do ingest are low GI.

 The bulk of your diet should be protein. This may seem obvious to some but i get lots of questions about good protein sources so here are some of my favourites :-

Lean cuts of Beef, chicken, turkey, lamb, bison, wild boar, ostrich, all fish (especially oily fish), all seafood such as prawns, squid, mussels, oysters, eggs (with yolks) and a good protein powder.

Next up is FATS. Dont be scared of having a good source of fat in your diet.

It will not be stored as body fat. Yes, that’s right, it will not be stored as body fat.

Good sources are:-

Avocado, avocado oil, olive oil, fish oil, mackerel, sardines, salmon, butter (yes), nut oils, coconut oil.

Avoid margarine like the plague.

Next in your diet should be a good source of vegetables, in particular, greens. Broccoli, cabbage, spinach, tomato, peppers, onions, leeks, Brussel sprouts, okra, cauliflower, artichoke, carrots, sweet potatoes.

Fruits:-

Berries (strawberries, blueberries, blackberries and any other berries you can get your hands on…also, plums, peaches, pomegranate.

Nuts and seeds :-

Brazil, cashew, almonds, macadamia, walnut, hazel, pecan, sunflower and pumpkin seeds.

Ideally, you would spread these food sources over 4-7 meals throughout the day to keep the metabolism high.

Here is a few of the food sources that our hairy ancestor had access to and it’s what we should try to adhere to also.

Your energy levels will increase, your body fat will go down, your workouts will improve, your sleep quality will improve and overall the world will be a better place :)

Every now and then, someone comes along, changes the name, adds a few ideas here and there and voila!, we have a new fad diet that all the celebs follow and everyone is raving about the inches lost of their hind quarters. The bottom line (pun intended) is that its nothing new. The most efficient, fastest, most effective way to lose unwanted bodyfat and safely is a HIGH protein, LOW carb diet. If we take this idea a step further and go back to our ancestors, the only food that our Paleolithic counterparts had access to was animals and certain fruits and vegetables, depending on their location and the season.     hey Gav, love the post. having read a lot about this kind of diet I’m now lowering carb intake (especially sugar) and embracing the proteins & fats! I noticed you don’t mention pulses anywhere your dietary advice? just wondering what your take on them was.
    I love kidney beans, lentils etc as a way of adding extra protein to meals and also for their fibre content. great for bulking up salads. as far as carbs go, they’re complex carbs and low GI so I figure not going to do much harm.
